South Indian Filter Coffee, World Poetry Day Special by P V Vaidialingam
In the land of South,
where spices reign,
There’s a drink that stirs both heart and brain.
Kumbakonam’s famous degree coffee brew,
Its aroma and taste
very fresh and true.
It starts with beans,
roasted to perfection,
Ground finely for a
brewing concoction.
In the filter top,
it meets hot water,
Decoction filters down that is so precious.
Buffalo milk,
a creamy delight,
Joins hands with sugar, to balance just right.
In this union,
The potion is born,
A brown elixir,
in the early morn.
Humanity’s fuel,
in every cup,
Revitalizing spirits,
never giving up.
From dawn till dusk,
it holds its sway,
This filter coffee,
in its gentle way.
In davaras and lotas,
it finds its home,
With a frothy cap,
like soft white foam.
Sipping slowly,
amidst earthly delights,
Inspiring thoughts,
on creative flights.
Awakening the neurons, with every gulp,
As the brew’s warmth spreads to body cells.
In the satisfaction of
each hearty sip,
Lies a wealth untold,
in its timeless grip.
From a humble start
in Karnataka’s soil,
To global trends,
that begin to uncoil.
Thanks to Baba Budan, the coffee pioneer,
For the gift of energy,
we hold so dear.
So let’s raise a cup,
to this wondrous brew,
To the spirit of coffee,
both old and new.
For in its embrace,
we find our drive,
To flourish with joy,
as we’re meant to thrive.
