Are You Still Growing? by Sushiila Tiwari
I took my daughter for shopping. She had to buy her sports shoes and badminton racket.
She has her own choices so I left her to make a decision and I got on a call. While the call was still on, I got a shout out, “Mamma, I like this. Taking one size bigger.”
I gesture with my hands, “Why?”
“I’m growing, so one size bigger will be better,” she replied.
I smile because going by my own upbringing I would have brought that up but consciously chose not to. Knowing the impact of such an attitude on kids, I try to be mindful of what I say. The serious thought of this is that I have been able to raise a mindful and responsible kid and that makes me the happiest.
The fun side of this is, it reminds me of a recent conversation back home when my cousin in her final year in college told my father not search a groom for her. The reason?
He would find an older man saying that she’s also growing up.
