An Adamant Poem, World Poetry Day Special
“An Adamant Poem” captures the poet’s struggle with writer’s block. The pencils and pens are portrayed as petrified and alarmed. The poet feels frustrated in trying to write. Despite their readiness, no inspiration comes. Words seem stuck in hibernation or trapped in imagination’s womb. The plea for emergence and wisdom reflects a longing for creative breakthrough. The poem conveys the universal experience of grappling with creative obstacles. Tandon saheb, it will resonate with anyone who has faced similar challenges. With you and Mr. Singh contributing regularly , I do not have any need of visiting any of the literary websites now.
My petrified pencils
And alarmed pens
Are too terrified to squeak,
Which often
In compassion
Makes me clutch a scrap of paper,
or whatever is there
in the vicinity
To embark upon an expedition of a new verse
But no waves hit the shores
Nothing scrabbles on
The virgin surface,
Neither word nor worm
Dipped in ink,
Where art thou
O letters and sounds,
Ammunitions of joy
Are you in hibernation,
Or, in the womb of imagination stuck?
Pray, emerge soon
Unveil yourself,
The world awaits your
antics.
And your wisdom,
with a dash of cool morning dew
On the wounds of time.
