YOGA
My non Tamizh knowing North Indian friends, when they came to know that I have written poems in Thamizh, wanted me to translate them into English for wider readership. I bowed down to their request and translated my Tamizh poem on YOGA into English. They liked it very much. I thought I will share the same poem with you. I have posted it below.
Yoga-India’s glorious Saga.
‘Look without’ said the west.
Used Telescopes and Microscopes
the Macrocosm revealed.
‘Look within’ said the East.
Discovered Ashtanga yoga–
The Microcosm unveiled.
Machines, the West seduced.
The eightfold YOGA the East deduced.
YAMA restrains with moral codes.
NIYAMA lists duty modes.
ASANA fine-tunes strength.
PRANAYAMA enhances breath.
PRATHYAHARA overcomes sensation
DHARANA promotes attention.
In SAMADHI
one finds fruition.
The union with GOD is the ambition.
Salute the sage PATHANJALI.
21st June is for SHRADANJALI
Let the yoga practice flourish.
Let all our ailments perish.
Let life be a celebration.
Let YOGA have our attention.
